One Must Be Poor To Know The Luxury Of Giving

We are all created equal with special gifts and if we reach out to each other in sharing these gifts, we all become richer because the smallest good deed is worth a thousand grand intentions and it takes a lot of courage to show your dreams to someone else.

Happiness doesn’t result from what we get, but from what we give. Helping others is the foundation stone of your recovery. A kindly act once in a while isn’t enough. You have to act the Good Samaritan every day, if need be. It may mean the loss of many nights’ sleep, great interference with your pleasures, interruptions to your business. Let us make one point, that we meet each other with a smile, when it is difficult to smile. Smile at each other, make time for each other in your family. This life is for loving, sharing, learning, smiling, caring, forgiving, laughing, hugging, helping, dancing, wondering, healing, and even more loving because there is no delight in owning anything unshared. It is pride when we feel that we are unusually well equipped to help the new man, forgetting our own early days, and overlooking the possibility that we may need help tomorrow. It is pride when we regard help to another as our good deed of the month and not as medicine for our own ailment which is only arrested and not cured.

Until we can receive with an open heart, we’re never really giving with an open heart. When we attach judgment to receiving help, we knowingly or unknowingly attach judgment to giving help. Giving with glad and generous hearts has a way of routing out the tough old miser within us. Even the poor need to know that they can give. Just the very act of letting go of money, or some other treasure, does something within us. It destroys the demon greed. It is one of the most beautiful compensations of this life that no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself and we need to know that if you are not generous with a meager income, you will never be generous with abundance. Love only grows by sharing and you can only have more for yourself by giving it away to others. Your job now is to be at the place where you may be of maximum helpfulness to others; so never hesitate to go anywhere if you can be helpful because your own Self-Realization is the greatest service you can render the world. Always remember that your greatest life messages and your most effective ministry will come out of your deepest hurts. One must be poor to know the luxury of giving.
