These are wonderful words of comfort. They speak of God as the Protector of those who trust in Him. They promise that while many will suffer destruction, the one who has trusted in God, who has fled to Him for safety, will be delivered. In this tough life we live we have to be able to find refuge and solace in God and his plans for us. Though at times we may feel like we can do it all by ourselves, the simple truth is, we cant. There is only one way to get through our lives and being able to reach our full potential requires that we trust in God when times are good and when times are bad.
The point is that God is our shelter when the winds begin to howl and under God’s wings we are defended, protected, perfectly safe. It means that someone else is in charge. Someone big, strong, and experienced. Someone who never goes off duty. Many in society have placed such a stigma on being as Christ-like as possible, that many try to do so, and when they aren’t able to live perfectly, they turn away because they feel too unholy to further establish a continual relationship with God.
